Posting a lot today because lots of thoughts brewing. I just came back from foocamp, possibly the most tech-positive-but-crypto-avoidant scene on the planet. The billionaires may have mostly gone majority maga redpilled, but the mass of SV techies remain firmly left of center and sympathetic to most left agenda items. Foocamp represents the SV center-mass well. AI dominated the discussion of course. There was a lot of talk of creators rights, regulation, accessibility, governance etc as well as lot of creative excitement about the tech itself. But (for instance) the idea that datacenter politics should be a showstopper didn’t appear. Nor did sillier views like stochastic parrotology. But the most notable thing from a crypto perspective was that crypto should have been a part of almost every session as a relevant theme but was almost completely missing and studiously avoided/ignored. Felt…not exactly hostile but like the tech is on probation and needs to re-earn its place at the tech-frontiers table.
