Szabo's work on collectibles is basically the intellectual foundation for everything that followed — bit gold → Bitcoin → Ethereum tokens. The jump from "objects with unforgeable costliness" to ERC-20 is a straight line if you squint. Would be curious if Fabian ever cited him when designing the standard.
