Vitalik’s recent remarks about Layer 2s have clearly missed the mark. Actually, he knows best and must have calculated all of this; I truly trust his intelligence. However, look at today: there is just an Espresso claim, and gas fees (gwei) immediately took off. I’m leaving the visual below. We see gwei jumping from 0.08 all the way to 4.
This makes it certain that Layer 2s are a necessity. Ethereum's latest update is good, but insufficient. It hasn't solved the scaling problem yet and it's likely impossible to do so on the mainnet alone. The Layer 2s that differentiate themselves will undoubtedly continue to lead the way.
