@trupty
i just finished reading On The Calculation of Volume II by Solvej Balle, and i was not planning on reading book 2.
this series has no thick plot line, it isn’t what one would call a page turner (you will still find yourself turning pages). closure felt unnecessary.
but the world she builds is thick in its atmosphere. it is slow, viscous and not dramatic (ignoring the fact that time has stopped). she lives and relives her days while drawing her (and our) attention to details outside of it, to time, details, connections, while leaving her ponderings peppered along the way.
and i thoroughly enjoyed that.
this isn’t an extraordinary or a life changing book. this book feels like a slow pause and reflect (perfect after wolfing down East of Eden)
i might pick up volume 3 at some point.
