good take. core dev under pure market conditions likely does not yield the characteristics we desperately want in a commons production system:
- heterogeneity + redundancy: social, political (lowest possibility of capture), network (client diversity), overlapping expertise, bus-factor buffer
- long-term collaborative mindset
- low extraction aka max redirect of sum benefits back to the user
- robust maintenance practices / removal of tech debt
- legitimate process outcomes aka "the ecosystem trusts/understands the tradeoffs considered to accomplish the outcomes facilitated by those working to steer the protocol"
note that i'm speaking abstractly, not necessarily about everything ethereum does right or wrong in this area
