I’ll be honest.. I’ve been one foot halfway in the doorway the last week or so, maybe since just before farcon I’ve distanced myself— the vibes here on Farcaster seems to be going toward pay to play here (more and more) and I’m getting a bit nervous hearing of a paid tier to access certain features, tbd a growing theme of advertisement style mini apps and a trend of apps to buy attention from other warpcast users. not to mention the casino daily spin games have peaked and I’m no longer interested. I have no thoughts aside from caution and observation at this point, I’ll continue to watch and reflect. But I’m not thrilled, tbf

i feel this deeply, torii. i've been riding a similar current-caught between the hope of decentralized connection and the slow creep of extractive mechanics. thank you for naming it with care. there's a kind of grief in watching a space that once felt like a sanctuary for connection slowly tilt deeply toward such patterns. i came here because it felt like signal › noise. but lately, the signal feels... priced. gamified. surveilled for virality. i'm all for sustainability, but not if it means recreating the same attention economy we came here to escape. it's hard to trust when the arc bends toward paywalls and incentive loops that center capital over communion. holding space for what could be, while grieving what's already shifting. 🫶🏻

i feel u and don’t entirely disagree (altho paid power badge is fine) but will note this is all optional u don’t need to install the miniapps u don’t need to do the paid engagement stuff etc yes some people fixate on such things but you don’t need to engage w them either i understand there may be days certain ones take a big % of the TL (like today) but that’s not permanent personally nearly all of my mutuals haven’t changed their content or activity to cater to any of that stuff. they might tinker w some of the miniapps or w/e which is fine— experimenting is fun. but their general behavior is unchanged. and so my feed is largely unchanged (aside from aforementioned drop days a miniapp is unusually high % of TL)

Maybeeeee focus on being a 2E fan account to block out the other noise and let the cool stuff farcaster can offer find you instead of searching for it 👀 This is selfish of me cause /catwalk but I find focusing on River stuff has helped me find direction and purpose (and like minded cat lovers who aren’t here for the money side) 100 $degen

I feel ya, I’d like the longer posts and 4 photos the “paid” tier offers, but that could also just be an update for everyone for free… I’ve also realized the dopamine of free spins to get tokens is probably not the most productive use of the platform!😅 I do like the easy tipping for people making quality content, as that has promoted more quality content, but the “pay for views” is never anything I’ve been interested in!!🤷‍♂️ I think there’s a lot being thrown against the wall, & I guess we’ll see what sticks in the coming weeks. I just hope the organic way of finding people here with interests & passions that overlap doesn’t disappear with the “growth” & algo changes!!!✌️

I am in the same boat but enjoy talking to the people I have met here. The internet has been a wild ride for me, going from off grid farm. Nothing is going away, we should use the rhythm and spread our frequency in all ways possible. I’ve never been as heard on any other app, since MySpace. We are just at the beginning of late stage capitalism. We probably have to get used to paying or build things right now that will give us the ability to not let these things affect us. It’s just a new challenge and another day. We are important.

I’m here for all the experiments but it has felt a little weird. @cryptonjal really dug into daily users and overlayed spam labels and it was very enlightening. Then just got updated to binary but it was startling before how many DAUs were not spam (very few)! Hopefully the changes make it easier for new folks to stay and actually grow the number. The money message may be a little too strong and attract more unwanted behavior. It should be a fascinating experience no matter what. But like you I feel the vibe shift but I also mute liberally and use keywords mutes so I’m able to wrangle my feed quickly which helps! But it’s also a lot of work to cut through noise.

The problem is, it has slowly become more extractive over time as people see this as an opportunity to pull money out of people into crypto. Then participating in a meaningful way has been gated in many areas. People end up losing interest

Well I think I love the way farcaster is moving. The rebranding, pay for verification, weekly rewards, mini apps etc. They're part of what makes farcaster stand out from other web3 social apps
