I went to see ‘INOUE Yu-ichi’s Calligraphy and Postwar Graphic Design in the 1970s–1980s’ at the Shoto Museum of Art, Shibuya. Since it is a private museum, the number of exhibited artworks is not so large, but there are surely milestone works, especially his debut work ‘自我偈’. I saw a retrospective exhibition at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa in 2016, but if my memory is correct, it was my first time to see it this time. Thoughtful selection and interesting perspective. Here are some photos from the exhibition catalogue of the Shoto Museum of Art, the left image being the cover🧵⤵️ The work on the right was exhibited at the São Paulo Biennale in 1957. 1/4
