Not exactly true for Europe. While technically you could get it on the plane (with blades less than 6cm), it usually gets confiscated. It is up to the discretion of airport security on how they interpret "sharp object". If it got through, this was a mistake (or laziness) by them. It may go once or twice, but it will eventually get taken.
