The irony is that the entire Ethereum research apparatus has researched for a decade how to make transactions cheap.

Wow, now we have made transactions cheap. I have virtually paid nothing to transact.

But I actually have paid a lot to move this money around (10 USDC and the time and risk it took).

Also: The benefit of paying for a transaction is that I pay based on the bytes that have to be stored on the network

Bitcoin maxis always say: Look here is a 10M BTC transaction transmitted for 10 cents. 

OK but in Ethereum we have precisely eroded this arguable very useful property. We are now being taxed by bridges on the AMOUNT of our transactions. It's literally a worse design
