Can Web3 Storage Like Arweave Replace Traditional Cloud Services?
Web3 storage solutions like Arweave offer decentralized, permanent data storage—a major shift from subscription-based cloud platforms like AWS or Google Cloud. Arweave stores data forever for a one-time fee, secured by a blockchain-like structure. This makes it ideal for archiving public records, NFTs, or censorship-resistant content.
However, it's not yet a full replacement. Traditional cloud services still lead in speed, scalability, and dynamic storage needs (e.g., frequent updates, databases).
In short: Arweave and similar platforms offer powerful alternatives for immutable, long-term storage—but they're currently best seen as complements, not replacements.
