learning more about cinematography and there's a part of me that wants to stop because it feels as if i'm pulling back the curtain on all the magical stories i've grown up with.
there are so many details that go into a short film (e.g. ~5min), let alone a feature film. before i go in too deep, i want to preserve my innocence of watching a film and viscerally relating to each character -- blissfully unaware of lighting, composition, shot type minutiae.
i've naturally experienced this feeling with many other subjects. but this seems more special.
technical subjects like physics or cs pique my interest because of their perceived utility and role as a blueprint of life. however, cinematography not only touches some of the most formative lessons in my life, but also manipulates technical elements to shape a person's feelings.
that's tough.
i wonder if there's something to be said about a subject making someone feel this sort of way. like maybe the irony is that this feeling is the ultimate signal to dive deeper into that "passion". (i once had a programmer friend teach me about functional programming like it's the answer to life itself. didn't understand shit about what he was saying but i couldn't stop smiling just hearing him go on about it)
