Step 1: The state pushes propaganda or creates false flags to make you afraid of something. Examples include drugs, terrorism, mass shootings, covid, and now illegal immigration. Step 2: The state takes away your rights to "protect you" from the fake or overblown emergency. Examples include Traffic checkpoints TSA Drug drugs trained to fake an alert so the police can search you without cause. Real ID Border crossing electronic device searches Detaining you without cause The Bank Secrecy Act The Patriot Act Civil Asset forfeiture Gun control laws Mass surveillance Sadly, many people understand this general concept but then still believe that the state is telling the truth about imaginary hordes of illegal gangbangers. It's a weird blind spot that many otherwise freedom oriented people have. They ignore the fact that immigrants commit less crimes than other groups and that most detainees have no criminal record. I'd rather have no state at all, but you can even still have your precious immigration enforcement, but we don't need a Orwellian police state just to enforce immigration laws. If an immigrant commits a real crime with a victim, arrest them and deport them. You don't need to occupy entire cities with legions of heavily armed anonymous face scanning Feds to accomplish that.
