The only time I interact with the state in my life is when I pay the water bill, in cash, which isn't even in my name. Beyond that I have managed to avoid interacting with the state and it's goons for years. I've done this in the city without having to live in a cabin deep in the woods, although that is certainly a viable option for some people.
The main advantage of doing this in the city is it is easier to live without using a car, and many interactions with the state occur through traffic stops and the DMV.
Are parts of my life style inconvenient? Yes, absolutely. Is it worth it to avoid the coercion of the state? I would say so.
