Please understand how absurd the logic of the war on drugs is. It is the idea of harming people in order to protect them from harming themselves. The harm caused by the prohibition far exceeds the harm caused by the drugs themselves. There is also the issue of who owns your body. If you don't have the right to put whatever substance you want into your own body, then the state is saying they own your body and can make those decisions for you. How many more people need to die or get thrown in a cage before people stop putting up with this massive violation of their rights? The state's propaganda is so effective that even many illegal drug users themselves believe that drugs should be illegal. Progress is being made though, twenty years ago if you said drugs should be legal or even decriminalized, people thought you were crazy. Now cannabis is legal in many states, psychedelics are socially acceptable, and the idea of ending or scaling back drug prohibition has broken out of the fringe into the mainstream. I hope I live to see the day when no one is ever locked up for plants, mushrooms, or unapproved substances again. A day where overdose deaths are rare because drug users can buy labeled and tested drugs instead of playing russian roulette with street drugs. A day when someone can call 911 for an overdose without being afraid of going to prison. A day when violent drug cartels aren't making billions of dollars off of drug war inflated prices. Rest in peace to all those who have died because of drug prohibition. And fuck all the police, prosecutors, judges, and politicians who support and enforce what is probably the most harmful government policy of all time. Future generations will look back at those people and wonder how they slept at night.
