Ledger has warned that the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chip, used in many smartphones (including the Solana Seeker), has a serious and unpatchable vulnerability.
Ledger tried to attack the chip with an electromagnetic pulse (EMF) when the device was booted and was able to:
- Take full control of the phone.
Bypass all protections.
Extract private keys if the user stores a crypto wallet on the device.
The flaw is inherent in the chip's silicon design and cannot be patched with software.
The chip maker claims that this is a consumer chip, not a financial device or hardware wallet. The chip is not designed to withstand EMF attacks, so exploiting it is "out of scope".
