(old) interesting thread from @shef-curry. doing my best to summarieze and sharing my own POV below: content layer of internet has no value, esp when cost of producing content trends to zero aggregation layer of internet has all the value, eg curation whether done manually or by algo crypto social platforms should focus on aggregation and *not* content generation what does this mean? allow anyone to create a custom feed X kind of does this with "lists" but always chronological ## 1. agree on value of curation: there's rising demand for feeds to be an extension of personal taste. 2. evidence: bluesky's custom feed system is mostly built by 3rd parties and reddit shows that aggregation / curation can be crowd-driven and sticky. 3. challenge: incumbents won't do it, new platforms have cold start problem, UX is still too complex for the avg person, + technical complexity is HARD. 4. opportunity: imo syndication + curation is the real play here. https://x.com/ShivanshuMadan/status/1920524122289025488

I disagree w the premise that "content is valueless" that may be true in web2, bc centralization prevents credible value consensus, but it doesn't have to be the case in web3 we just need to develop better value capture models, instead of relying on web3 models (ie Attention Economy) this can actually be our value proposition - in web2 your content has no value beyond how many eyeballs.. get to see the ad next to your content in web3 your contribution is valued based on its impact on the community/network

@abundance has an interesting approach for curation with /impact Saying that, producing quality content doesn’t cost close to 0 … involves different people, expertise, fixed and variable costs etc … Then the question would be how can we find an equilibrium between meme / casino / fun crypto vibes and valued quality

Zora's game is point of origin catch-all, so they be one of the top, if not the top spot for Internet traffic (simplest interface to action) and capture transaction value. This will be important to make crypto accessible to the majority of the Internet. They're not in it to compete with Farcaster, nor should they be, because when Farcaster grows -> the curators will be here and some of that curation will be banger originating on Zora.

Fully agree with this. Most people don’t want to scroll forever, they want signal fast. Curation is how products stay relevant as content explodes. Still early, but huge upside here.

Content is everywhere now. What people really need is help finding what matters. Custom feeds that reflect personal taste could be the exactly what we need. 👀
