if you're asking "why do we need another chain?" (some of you) then i implore you to read @liam.eth's post on why he joined Tempo and see if it changes your perspective. sharing a snippet but the full read is 100% worthwhile: https://liamhorne.com/tempo also worth reading: x.com/zcabrams/status/1963640969183859116

They’re launching an L1 not because it makes technical sense (it doesn’t vs launching an L2), but because they want to corporate-capture the stablecoin opportunity. Let’s call a spade a spade and not pretend otherwise

Even if you were buying the thesis (it's not worth buying the thesis, but let's play along), there's a critical problem here. 1) to build that chain, it makes no sense to trust a guy who claimed he would deliver world-class application-ready rollups with Optimism then bails for a new L1 under the claim rollups are not application-ready. Liam has conclusively failed at his own stated mission. 2) on the other hand, it makes perfect sense to trust that same person if you're a VC who wants to sell a token premium to retail then move on to the next con. Liam has successfully achieved that mission. If you're not an insider, the only rational choice is to assume profit motive and not listen to a word out of Liam's mouth. Casual readers might also want to know Ted, as a Privy worker, is an insider with bias in this. Privy was acquired by Stripe, which is building Tempo.

It's me. I'm the one who asks why we need more chains.

I'll never be against anyone trying something new in a free market. Competition makes everyone level up and serve the market better. But it's a bit odd to say this consortium chain is "borrowing the Ethereum ethos" when it's the opposite of cypherpunk. Bankcoins are of course not cypherpunk itself, but at least on Ethereum they are in proximity & competition with ETH, wBTC, algostables and other stores of value. Do customers want to trade-off the "right to exit to decentralized stores of value" for lower fees?

Kinda sounds like solana pipelining and think ultimately it’s about control and siloing and not making sacrifices to fit. Personally don’t understand why not build on the OP stack, yet I’m not technical enough to get into the nitty gritty. Would assume it also comes down to how you can pitch to the folks you want to bring into the tent - visa et Al. Look forest to base app asking tempo support I guess…

Read and it didn't but is what it is. Everyone wants the value capture of their own chain

The reasons for the chain are valid and make sense. Building something purely for the purposes of payment interfacing (broadly) Yet what doesn’t make sense is the slop around ethos of Ethereum. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, chances are it’s a duck.

Welp, I am always one to ask "why another", but I like this. EVM compatible, focused on a high volume use. I dig it. I am completely for decentralization, but I realize that centralization is at the least useful, potentially even necessary (as in this use case).

Sorry, it's just another VC chain with plans to "decentralize in the future" and he's doing it for the money.
