interesting prediction. i’m a big fan of in-person for collaboration, creativity, and also confidentiality. there are some things i’d only feel comfortable sharing IRL these days.

If someone would record you online why not irl?

what I mean is I don’t think the medium matters to a betrayer, maybe it’s under the assumption of third party intervention though

I just like how tech people’s own tech caused so many problems for the tech people they refuse to use the tech

what is it

the idea was an iphone-based audio jammer that would distort any audio recordings, online, IRL, or otherwise. after some quick research, it turns out iphones aren't capable of ultrasonic frequencies. could easily do it with a DIY device, though, and there are a lot on the market otherwise.

lol why do tech people always end everything by saying everyone needs to move to sf

Trust and privacy will always be valuable and probably require a premium This phenomenon would probably push people to more secure devices to communicate just as much as it would IRL meetings

I've said over and over again, "trust" is one of the most underrated variables in all this

okay. that's interesting. scary too. but people can record conversations irl, no? used to have a shady uncle who did this for every irl convo. he'd discreetly turn on sound recorder and place his phone in his pocket. it's all relative, imo.

Taking the legal aspect out (some states require both parties to be approved to be recorded) If just using to turn words against each other... Then...Yes...

If AI Labs and "stealthy" startups can't contain their trade information, they're ngmi, zoom or device recording or not. High level R&D has always prioritized secrecy independent of the recording/listening

This is lowkey why I want to go for an irl conference there’s only so much gossip you can get online lol. Need to do it in person for more open conversations. 😁 But seriously, people are more open and free and it’s just better vibes irl most of the time cause some things are lost in transmission online.

yes, but if ever there was a place where lots of people are wearing those stupid AI pendant things that record every moment of the day, it's also SF. there is no escape

california is a two-party consent state fwiw.

Notion AI feature is freaky. And completely agree with this take.

Related: I almost installed Govee's backlighting kit for my monitor, which operates by having a camera pointed at the screen to record images and send color information to the attached LED strip. But then it occurred to me that having a third-party camera pointed at my work computer's screen would probably be a bad idea and likely make someone in security made at me.
