I’ll gently disagree here. I don’t worry about being a victim of “sealioning” (bad-faith faux intellectual curiosity gaslighting with a carrot of compromise/reconciliation) because I’m not communicating to persuade. I’m communicating to educate myself and other people. @benersing and I identified our common ground: “capitalism” is a misnomer and housing costs are influenced by suboptimal nonmarket factors. We could, if we wanted, actually form a think tank and publish policy white papers simply around those two common beliefs. We don’t need to agree on how nonmarket housing price factors should be resolved. Just articulating their existence would be a monumental shift by business press and politicians . So would admitting that “capitalism” is a misnomer. If he and I achieved nothing but shifting the national conversation on those two beliefs, that would be a spectacular feather in our caps. Like Derrida says about structure— why assume he doesn’t deviate from assumption?
