Social media and networking is changing. OG social media was about posting life updates and pictures to share with your friends. Interact with simple likes to share your feelings with them in a quantifiable way. You connected with your IRL friends and colleagues online, and stayed connected. Somewhere over the past 10 years social media turned into an addiction maximalism business, show the top relevant content and ensure users scroll infinitely. Social media turned 99% of the network into consumers, and many stopped posting. Social “networking” transitioned into group chats. Most of your posts are likely to Slack channels, Discord, iMessage group chats, etc. These Group chats are the new social networks that filter content from feeds and into the chat. I mostly (outside of FC) use social media to find tweets and TikTok’s to share with my friends and family. Like this is 85% of my online social media behavior. Farcaster succeeded early on because it felt more like a group chat that was growing, and there was an incredible camaraderie that was built. Group chats don’t scale, they fractalize. I’m not sure becoming an infinitely scrollable destination is the future of networks or even desirable. I say this with an insane amount of respect for Merkle, and this community. My thoughts do not mean I am giving up on this community, I am committed to being here, being a voice and being a part of this journey and exploration.

I think I figured out @eulerlagrange’s core skill. It’s identifying ideas in the market that are underpriced, and then relentlessly shilling it until ppl listen (because they’ve been shilled into submission) @hairdao is a the recent example of this. Nice testament to the power of permissionless capital formation

Dealing with a relatively complex upgrade to a frontend component. And I’m 100% certain that if I tried to “vibe code” it… it would be broken a thousand different ways.

Fair, assumed it was more of a failure of product than it was a foundational model problem. But tbh I’m not watching this that closely.

Will read this tonight. Was Llama 3 a failure because it just couldn’t compete? Or was it something else? Like the fact that ChatGPT has mindshare and “use case dominance”

So Zuck got all these people, but does he have a differentiated strategy for a foundation model? Outside of the access to Meta’s data hoard.
