Unlike centralized metaverses (e.g., Meta), Web3 metaverses like Decentraland or The Sandbox let users monetize creations, trade virtual land, and govern platforms. Interoperability remains nascent—avatars/items can’t yet move freely between worlds. Critically, Web3 ensures user sovereignty over identity and data, countering corporate surveillance.
