Benford’s Law proves that in natural datasets, the number 1 appears as the leading digit ~30% of the time, while 9 appears less than 5%. This is a byproduct of how numbers grow: to get from 1 to 2, you must grow by 100%, but to get from 8 to 9, you only need 12.5%. Consequently, numbers "linger" in the 10s, 100s, and 1000s far longer than they do in the 90s, 900s, or 9000s.
