Is Sweden dark for 6 months? Not really “dark for six months,” no. We have winter for six months, which means the actual daylight hours are shorter during some of it. Where I live, in Jämtland, halfway up Sweden’s length, the darkest day of the year sees the sun rising at 09:41, and setting at 14:20. This is the actual graph: Sunrise and sunset times in Östersund As you can see though, there is an immense amount of twilight before and after the rising and setting sun. Even on the darkest day of the year, dawn starts at about 06:30, and it is getting brighter until 09:41, when the sun actually comes over the horizon line. When the sun has disappeared again at 14:20, the sky actually still stays lit and only gradually becomes darker all the way from 14:20 till just before 18:00.
