russell market, bangalore, india 📍
i don't know what it was that drew me towards her that day.
was it her tamed wisdom or my ignorant pity or her unrecognised beauty?
i don't want to write a cliche on how the "eyes speak a thousand words".
but from the thousand things i read from her face that day, the only thing certain i found was that we mistake invitation for neediness.
not once did she ask for help or give me a sad look or lift her worn out wrinkled palm.
the feeling i received was quite the opposite.
she did not understand why i was spectating the market.
she was the woman always sitting on the footpath observing different sides of the world in this busy market.
her role was that of an observer and i had colonised it.
when i noticed this and sat next to her, she didn't say a word and simply gazed at me, inviting me to go ahead and do whatever it is i was there to do.
out of the thousand words that her eyes spoke that day, "challenge" was the loudest.
