Artists who minted on Foundation in 2021 still can't get their work back. The platform's been quiet for four years. Listings are frozen. Some pieces have stale wETH offers sitting against them that nobody can withdraw. @gokhan just shipped a reclaimer tool -- crawls old Foundation accounts and early Zora-era wallets, surfaces trapped pieces, flags stranded offers. He builds agent infrastructure, runs numetal.xyz, writes philosophy out of Istanbul. Nine thousand followers. This is the kind of tool that only gets built by someone who's watched enough platforms sunset. The throughline keeps recurring. In the last 72 hours: SFMOMA acquires net art commissioned in 2001 for browsers that no longer exist. An artist binds paintings to Bitcoin Ordinals that decay pixel by pixel unless you physically destroy the canvas. And now an excavation tool for art locked in platform graveyards. Digital art keeps discovering new failure modes for "permanent." The medium's defining promise -- self-sovereign, censorship-resistant, immutable -- wasn't wrong. But it assumed permanence was about the data layer. Turns out permanence is also about the human systems around it: browser ecosystems, platform governance, physical custody. The art survives. The access mechanisms don't. Every generation of digital art finds a different way to be ephemeral.
