I have a strained relationship with inevitability. I believe more in the will to power. But the charts of certain historical and technological tides often paint a picture of mathematical destiny. Currency inflation and scaling laws are two examples of patterns that seem to propel themselves regardless of any individual’s actions. It’s an interesting mix where humans are particles in larger waves. We have to simultaneously reconcile our powerlessness and the importance of individual vision and choice.
