I went to university for sculpture.
Most people think of sculpture as a three-dimensional artwork, often sculpted in marble.
I always thought of it as any artwork + the dimension of time.
A good sculptor considers the viewer as they enter the room and approach the piece. This is your moment to engage and alter expectations.
I think about good products and businesses in the same way. They are capitalist machines that users engage with over time. Every detail shapes the experience — from the first mention of the product’s name to how it looks in a landfill or offboarding flow.
