If you watch YouTube crypto videos, you should be aware of what is happening. In late 2025, a specific and highly dangerous narrative has emerged: scammers are actively telling users to "Stop using hardware wallets" or claiming that hardware wallets are "compromised" or "unsafe." This is a social engineering tactic designed to move you away from the safest form of storage into a "hot" environment where they can more easily steal your funds. Long story short, scammers hate hardware wallets because your private keys are stored offline and not connected to the internet. They will issue all kinds of security alerts , claiming that hardware wallets are outdated and slow, and that you should move your funds to a high speed web3 wallet. This is all done to create fear, and a sense of urgency to secure your crypto. They ask you to type your 24-word recovery phrase into a website or "new" app to "import" your funds. The Result: The moment you type those words into a computer or phone, the "cold" wallet becomes "hot," and the scammer uses the words to instantly drain your accounts.
