In what is being called a "day of clarity" for the industry, the SEC and CFTC issued a joint interpretation on March 17 that finally defines the jurisdictional lines for digital assets.
The "Commodity" List: The agencies officially classified 16 major crypto assets as digital commodities, including Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP, Cardano (ADA), and Chainlink (LINK).
Previously, the only cryptocurrency that was deemed a commodity was bitcoin.
What is the significance of this ruling ? The biggest barrier for banks and pension funds wasn't the price, it was the risk of being sued for "selling unregistered securities."
Now that we have this ruling, it gives the institutional “ green light “ to promote these cryptocurrencies without fear of the SEC coming down on them.
