Happy New Year!
So much light, so many colors, so many fireworks all around. It feels as if today the happiness & joy of every human being has touched the sky and gently dipped to the earth. All of us laughing with our families, celebrating & lighting fireworks. Yet, we are selfish.
If only the birds could speak tonight—
Perhaps they would say, “My little baby is trembling in fear.”
Perhaps they would say, “This deafening sound is tearing my heart apart.”
Perhaps they would say, “This toxic smoke makes it hard for us to breathe.”
On the night we celebrate with light and noise, they wander lost in the sky—having lost their nests, their safety, their peace. Our joy becomes their terror, our celebration is their helplessness. Still, we don’t stop, we don’t care.
Once a legendary Fakir, Lalon Sai said “We born as a human, but we couldn’t become one.”
Let the new year arrive, but if humanity does not come with it, then even a festival filled with light remains nothing but darkness.
