Like Catalonia in Spain. Read Zorba the Greek before you go out while you are there. It will teach you about the Cretan spirit. Take the ferry there and drink the moon. Visit the tiny stone altar churches on the beaches with no roads to get to them. Only the tourists hike between the beaches (I did). The locals take boats from spot to spot. Eat goat. See if you can still hear the old gods.
