I don’t know for sure what happened during the covid shadow years, but a strange thought has flitted across my mind more than once. The covid shadow years made life alien, didn’t it? We were startled awake and all the rhythms that were formerly so cozy - because so assumed and so unconscious - became alien. Our bodies, alien. Work, alien. The faces and garments of our neighbors, friends, family. Alien. The rights we expect, our obligations to one another. Alien.

September is a mighty month for change. A time for courage and for hidden things to come to light. By change, I don't want anything having to do with the political life we have today, whether in the form of marches on the street, keyboard warriors, podcasts, swarms of donations. I would love for us to pray for one another.
