Did you know that in the 19th century, people in Britain used to send their children through the mail? Yes, you read that right! In 1840, the introduction of the Uniform Penny Post allowed families to send parcels through the mail system. Some parents took advantage of this service to mail their children to relatives, as the cost was cheaper than a train ticket. The practice didn’t last long, though, as postal regulations were soon tightened to prevent such unusual deliveries! 📬👶
