Totally agree. I resisted for the longest time, but reading it out loud is a great tool. And when you’re developing an idea, just describing it out loud to a listener will help you understand which parts are inherently interesting or boring.
Writing is a muscle. Work out (I.e. write) even when you don’t feel like it. 90% of the time something good comes from it.
I swear by the 20-minute rule. Sit down to write and tell yourself you can quit after 20 minutes. Then put your fingers to your computer for 20 minutes, even if you just type the letter J for the whole time. You will get into the swing and usually keep going after the 20 minutes are up.
If you haven’t seen Stop Making Sense, I’d say make it a priority. I mean, like, tomorrow. Best concert film ever. https://youtu.be/nP8JhOSps_0?si=BVHDp0YE3NOuJ4Vn
