This work reimagines Fireworks Over Nagaoka, one of the most iconic scenes depicted by Kiyoshi Yamashita (1922–1971), the celebrated “Wandering Artist of Japan.” Known for his extraordinary memory and meticulous harie (torn-paper collage) technique, Yamashita traveled freely across the country, later recreating landscapes and festivals with remarkable precision—often without a single sketch or note. Rendered here in a style inspired by Georges Seurat’s pointillism, the piece pays homage not only to Yamashita’s vivid sense of color and detail but also to his lifelong pursuit of capturing the warmth and nostalgia of Japan’s everyday beauty. Through this fusion, the artwork reflects both the quiet intensity of Yamashita’s creative process and the timeless brilliance of Nagaoka’s summer night sky.
