PAUL CÉZANNE (1839 - 1906)
Cézanne worked on the series for more than five years, starting with a huge 2-meter canvas and a multi-figure composition (1), in the second painting he reduced the number to four (2), and in the rest only the most important thing remained - two rivals, a bottle they are most likely gambling on, a table and cards. Nothing superfluous or distracting, nothing transient or momentary. Only the eternal.
“Card Players” (1893).
