What's the de facto process for token ticker symbols these days?

i.e. how do prevent collisions? How does it work across Ethereum vs. Solana? Is CoinGecko the loose consensus canonical source of truth?

no process, cultural consensus decides the winner

yeah i would say the market decides, i think "canon" maybe also determined by things like project websites, uniswap verification, dev announcements etc

on twitter for example theres the custom of asking not just for the ticker but for the contract address to verify its the real one

Happens by volume and liquidity of the pools for that token.

So where does that happen? Twitter? Uniswap? Farcaster?

Tickers need to be combined against smart contract addresses to avoid collisions.
