Al Capone was one of the most infamous criminals in history. Born in 1899 in Brooklyn, New York, he rose to power during the Prohibition era, when alcohol was illegal in the United States. Capone built a massive criminal empire based on bootlegging, gambling, and organized crime in Chicago.
Despite his violent reputation, he was known publicly as a generous and charismatic man, often donating money to charities and helping the poor. Behind the scenes, however, his organization was responsible for bribery, intimidation, and countless murders, including the famous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.
Ironically, Capone was never convicted for murder. In 1931, he was finally brought down by the government for tax evasion. He spent years in prison, including time in Alcatraz, and died in 1947, mentally and physically broken.
His life remains a powerful example of how power built on crime eventually collapses.
