In the 17th century, the “nightingale floor” was invented in Japan. Metal brackets were installed under the floor in such a way that with each step they made sounds similar to birdsong. It was impossible to walk on such a floor silently, and if someone tried to sneak up on tiptoes, they would only increase the pressure on the planks and the nightingale’s singing would become louder.
