Blockchain creates a lot of financial value even with fairly limited transaction throughput. Therefore, when considering the possibilities of FHE today, Zama’s technology still lies in a nascent market. Multicoin and Protocol Labs helped Zama bring its technology to market and have been working closely with the Zama team pioneering on-chain FHE. There are different approaches to on-chain privacy. For simple payments, zero knowledge proof (ZKP) has been proven to be sufficient. However, when it comes to leveraging all data associated with shared state, which by definition encompasses all of DeFi, ZKP is insufficient or extremely difficult to implement. The advantage of FHE is that it allows information providers to protect their privacy while also allowing developers to reuse the same logic in a transparent environment.
