This week Omarchy got support for pre-M series Macbooks plus ghostty and Brave auto theming. I still think this project is net good for Linux and open source adoption.

What's bad about it at all?

DHH. He does great work rallying for open source and then uses the platform that gives him to spew hateful bullshit. Anti-trans, anti-immigrant, pro-Trump. Even a recent screen shot of Omarchy, he intentionally put that NYT Kirk whitewashing article by Ezra Klein on the screen. Why? To use his platform to push his bullshit political ideologies. I’m a person who can largely disassociate the good things someone does from the bad, but I know that many people just blindly idolize anything a celebrity says. So I worry about his influence growing.

I think it's fine to disagree with DHH and still collaborate on causes we're mutually aligned around. I genuinely think this is the way forward both for advancing things we both care about *and* for building empathy for each other. I get the premise of platforming, whitewashing, and all that but I think differently about them in 2025 than I did in 2010. I genuinely don't think that not engaging with people we disagree with for fear of platforming them is productive anymore, 1. This should only really be applied to people engaging in bad faith in the first place. 2. Platforms are not audience-based anymore, it's all algorithmic now. "Platforming" doesn't mean what it used to. Anyway I high level agree with you that a lot of DHH's takes are bad. Frankly, Ruby and Rails are bad in my subjective opinion. :PPP I'm just excited to find a common cause that will hopefully be a sprout of growth for everyone involved. Omarchy is a rare example where DHH "winning" is also everyone else winning, I want more of those scenarios and fewer zero-sum/extractive scenarios which everyone simps for all day.

I agree. That’s kind of the whole premise of my initial cast :P Also I don’t care so much about DHH being platformed. I care about veneration and celebrity. I think people should actively call him out all the time. But they’re spineless and sycophantic. Everyone successful or otherwise helpful to their cause is god. That’s my critique. People like you who don’t even associate the baby with the bathwater, are not of concern. We’re much closer to agreement than disagreement on this.
