Naked mole rats are one of the strangest mammals on Earth.
They almost never get cancer, even though they live much longer than other rodents. Scientists discovered that their cells produce a unique substance that prevents tumors from forming by stopping damaged cells from multiplying.
Even stranger, naked mole rats feel very little pain from things like acid or inflammation. Their nervous system is wired differently, which helps them survive harsh underground environments with low oxygen.
