Some frogs can survive being completely frozen. The wood frog can stop its heart, freeze solid for weeks, and then come back to life when temperatures rise. During freezing, its body fills cells with glucose, which acts like antifreeze and prevents fatal ice damage. Once thawed, the frog’s organs restart and it continues life as if nothing happened. A rare example of suspended animation found in nature.
