The Missing Layer: Teaching AI to See the Human Being
For years, we have asked artificial intelligence the same question:
What can we automate next?
It was the right question for the first generation of AI.
But it is probably the wrong question for the next.
We can place every image Vincent van Gogh ever created into an AI system.
The system may learn his colors.
Because AI will have seen Van Gogh’s images.
It will not have seen Van Gogh.
But if Van Gogh himself could show AI how he saw a human being, that would be a completely different story.
This is why we need people with vision.
Not simply to build better AI.
But to teach AI how to see the human being.
A perfect copy is not the same as understanding.
AI can reproduce Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.
But reproduction does not explain why this work matters.
The image alone cannot teach that.
The human being can.
