Gm. Today we honor Alotta Money, the patron saint of cryptoart and a self-proclaimed NFT machine who passed away 3 years ago. He left behind an abundance of work for us to enjoy, including many sublime self-portraits. Let's explore some of these works! ๐งต๐๐ฝ
gm cryptoart lovers! The False Promise by @jivinci This work critiques the lack of transparency around sales by web2 auction houses & the impact on creator royalties. In 2019, Jivinci and Alotta Money created Saint Nakamoto, which set a record for the highest sale of a work of cryptoart at the time. @niftytime.eth was the first owner of the work, acquiring it for 11 eth. The work was later re-sold to Starry Night Capital for 270 eth. Starry Night collapsed during the bear market. When its holdings were liquidated, Sotheby's took custody of the digital assets. Sotheby's sold Saint Nakamoto last December for an undisclosed amount. To this date, royalties have yet to be paid to the artists. The False Promise offers a stark critique of the failure of web2 auction houses to uphold their social contract with creators.
