Gold has overtaken U.S. Treasuries as the top reserve asset held by central banks for the first time in over two decades.
Official gold reserves are now valued at about $5 trillion, compared to $3.9 trillion in foreign Treasury holdings.
Since Q4 2019, central banks have tripled their gold holdings, adding around 4,500 tonnes including unreported purchases.
Over the same period, Treasury holdings have barely changed.
Gold is redefining the global monetary system.
