On the 3rd local time, the controversy over the foreign media bill in Georgia has not subsided, and Georgians continue to protest. The bill has now passed its second reading in Parliament. Georgia's pro-European president has said he will not sign the bill even if it passes its third reading. The bill requires media or non-commercial organizations to register as foreign-influenced if more than 20 percent of their funding comes from abroad. Critics say it not only impedes press freedom but also prevents Georgia from joining the European Union. Critics have also dubbed the bill the "Russian law," citing similar mejavascript:void(0);asures in Russia to restrict independent news media and nongovernmental organizations.
