X-ray studies revealed that the canvas originally depicted a boy, which Picasso later transformed into a girl by altering facial features and hairstyle. The work blends cold blue tones with warmer hints, reflecting his stylistic shift.
It has been part of the Tate Gallery, London collection since 1933.
