What do you call it when for years, multiple people who are successful in a way you dream of being successful repeatedly tell you that you inspire them

It's very flattering but a mindfuck that fuels my bitterness at the same time about how much of all of this is just a popularity contest at the end of the day

If you’re having those conversations with those people maybe it’s best to just be honest with them - a simple “it’s amazing the well earned success you’ve had, how can I level up my game, do you have any advice” might do ya wonders

Yeah fair. Kind of embarrassing but at least could gain some knowledge

For sure - though I wouldn’t say it’s embarrassing, people love to talk about themselves and asking someone about the big breaks they got along the way is an easy bucket
