I have been fantasizing lately about escaping the flash and noise of modern life, craving a kind of sensory cleanse.
I am pulling all possible strings to return to Namibia this October for two weeks (or more) of wild camping. Being there, surrounded by stars and elements, you become acutely aware of every small movement and sound - the wind brushing over the sand, the dried skin of a snake preserved by the elements rolling with an occasional gust, tiny black geckos claiming every bit of the merciless sun.
Days unfold in a simple five-step rhythm:
Wake before sunrise, start a fire, make coffee, read, make more coffee. Time both stands still and rearranges itself, as if quiet, lifelong shifts and moments of knowing begin to fall into place.
